jeweler's box? okay...

Image
Well ola. Project 1 over here comes project 2. Upon studying and understanding the artist behavior, environment, exposure and work style; now we have to apply what we have founded into something that he/she could use in the work area. Mine being a jewelry designer, had alot of bulky tools; keeping in mind that it has to be durable and hardy for rough use. That is the reason to why it the drafts below are some reasons to why my first few ideas were very organic-looking shapes. all of which are meant to take a beating. If per-say Jonathan Yun were about to take this mobile kit for a journey. Collapsible handheld trunk Expanding egg Bamboo based tray. Multiple trays allows my artist to store and collect physical samples for inspirational ideas. A combination of the 3 ideas above, seeing that it each have very good attributes. So, yea. Ok mock upcoming!

Mindmaps for all

The synopsis obtained from studying Jonathan Yun's work and life. Below is the final submission for the infographic project 1. I've done as much to apply the working styles and attributes of Jonathan Yun. keeping the board minimalistic in its layout while centralising his main form of inspiration; the coral. This is a draft of my own and a fellow team member before presenting our finals works.

The Artist...The jeweller

Background Jonathan Yun. A famous jewelry designer born and raised in the hustles of Penang, Malaysia. He's a graduate from RMIT, Australia (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). He specials in fine metal and gemology, which along the process inclined him to the path that hes is currently. Inspirations A majority of his designs are "neo-peranakan", locally inspired pieces because of our rich heritage and beautiful nature. Which aided him in obtaining his awards in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. Challenges Like all aspiring artist in the industry there is bound to be counterfeits and plagiarisms of their artwork. And based on the articles read, and interviews; Jonathan Yun projects himself as a man who is emotionally attached to his makings. Therefore, for instances such as this to occur, enrages him. Many a times bringing him to the point of retrieval; nevertheless he perservered ad uses it as a driving factor to create more designs unque to this t...

Back for more...Project 1

After a relatively long semester break, semester 2 began. What I thought would be an introduction and briefing turned into a lecture for the day. We recapped what we have learned previously; understanding Ergonomics, Anthropometrics and how it both coincides with each other. For our first project we are to study a given artist. To understand their phylosophies, inspirations; challenges, lifestory and their art pieces that defined them as who they are today. My artist, a renound jewellery designer, Jonathan Yun.

Final Lap

Here. The final piece to ending the progress of this assignment. The compilation of drawings, character, layout and insect diagrams. All fitted to tell the story and the process of how it all comes together to show my merchants relevance to the his living space. Like the idea of my abstract, I kept in mind the design language which is Centralization. From the center, my insect breaks out in to several segments.

Character Design

Image
Looks a bit weak? Apologies, I literally had no idea or a hero that I envisioned. Like all heroes or villains, there is a story behind the life they chose to walk away from. For my character, the man I envisioned him to be is a merchant for hire. (also because I could not decide)  So here's the backstory... A man, once a boy, unwanted, unloved and stateless with no one to turn to or to rely on; survived on his own amongst the homeless in the dumps of the city. One day a man came around, looking for children to 'recruit', however the purpose was unknown. Given a label A-26, he spent years being trained in a special task force of a hidden society. This organisation experimented on men, finding ways to develop the next form of weaponry. A-26 was part of a successful task force that was merged with centipede like characters, as a team they did the bidding of others; assassinations, toppling government etc. They were effective beyond expected, until one unfatef...

A look at the Abstract aspect of Insects

Image
Do not know what you are looking at?  Me neither, at first. It is completely different from where I began the process of this assignment. In this task, we are to extract attributes, behavior, characteristics that defines our insect. And later, change its interpretation into the form of formal organisation, design language; even as we identify the tangible and intangible components of the insect.  The organisation that I have chosen is Centralization, whereby the different parts of the piece meets at a point. Through several stages of trial and error in defining my language, I have concluded with final results. As I have chosen, Violent, Protective, Segmented.  Upon stating these attributes, you should be able to match the keywords to my art piece. All of which represents my centipede. This is because, like the centipede, the exaggerated segments in my abstract art shows the body. Using warm colors and the erratic patterns, I display its violent behavior co...
