long overdue update (the final stretch)

Here it is. Home stretch. the product of my final push to the end of semester 2. To be honest I wanted it to turn out differently from how it is now. In some ways better, but nevertheless, no regrets. why spend time of what has been done when there is still much more to look forward to. Hence, without further ado, i give you Jo's Oasis. 
I know that some might be thinking this is quite stupid, well in some ways you're right. a stupid name. But here is why I stuck with this name. The inspiration sprung when I saw that my designer needed a place to lay low, keep to himself while having the environment familiar to him as he remains in the city. That is why I chose this spot, Seri Wawasan, Putrajaya. An upcoming city but with the site chosen, it is secluded enough to give him the privacy and inspirational elements that he needs from his surroundings. Him being a Penang-boy, his need and want is to be near a large body of water. It is his main source of inspiration; that and everything that lives in it.

As a group, we have chosen our site to be the Suriamas Condominium. This project is to observe and lookout for key problems in the building, with the purpose to exercise our skills in applying solutions to these places. To my surprise the condition of this buildings services as a whole is not as unpleasant as we thought it would be. Overall, it is a decent place with adequate resources and facilities. Nevertheless, in light of this assignment, we still managed to find defects. Round 2! Group assignment ended, another one begins. Upon completing the first, we were asked to chose a particular insect, and of the 6 choices we chose what seemed most appropriate. Yet the journey through this process was an utmost disgust. You'll understand in a moment. One word says it all. Worms. All things long and squirmy, we had to research that. Worms,Centipedes and Millipedes was the given topic and in 3 days we presented our findings. The process in presenting our visual board. The reason to why I called it a visual board is because we were meant to visualize aspects of our insect while each of the components and facts remain intact with the rest of the information gathered. For the reason that it would be too much or hectic to look for attributes with the possibility of having overlapping information, we divided the load and my findings were its behaviour.

Recap on the Rise and fall of Project Archy

To recap from the experience that we had, it was an enjoyable assignment where we see variations of designs and builds of the structures. This experiment showed us that each team had their own strengths and weaknesses in the arch. But what I think mattered at the end of the day is how well-rounded ones build is. This is because, if we were to apply it to our physical context, the main goal is to create and design a unique habitable living space. If that were the case, ours would probably kill people in regions where seismic activity is high but will stand out if it were a bunker.  From what I have learnt, is that the balance is key. Design is an important component but at the end of the day, functionality remains the priority.
