Final Lap

Image
Here. The final piece to ending the progress of this assignment. The compilation of drawings, character, layout and insect diagrams. All fitted to tell the story and the process of how it all comes together to show my merchants relevance to the his living space. Like the idea of my abstract, I kept in mind the design language which is Centralization. From the center, my insect breaks out in to several segments.

Character Design

Image
Looks a bit weak? Apologies, I literally had no idea or a hero that I envisioned. Like all heroes or villains, there is a story behind the life they chose to walk away from. For my character, the man I envisioned him to be is a merchant for hire. (also because I could not decide)  So here's the backstory... A man, once a boy, unwanted, unloved and stateless with no one to turn to or to rely on; survived on his own amongst the homeless in the dumps of the city. One day a man came around, looking for children to 'recruit', however the purpose was unknown. Given a label A-26, he spent years being trained in a special task force of a hidden society. This organisation experimented on men, finding ways to develop the next form of weaponry. A-26 was part of a successful task force that was merged with centipede like characters, as a team they did the bidding of others; assassinations, toppling government etc. They were effective beyond expected, until one unfatef...

A look at the Abstract aspect of Insects

Image
Do not know what you are looking at?  Me neither, at first. It is completely different from where I began the process of this assignment. In this task, we are to extract attributes, behavior, characteristics that defines our insect. And later, change its interpretation into the form of formal organisation, design language; even as we identify the tangible and intangible components of the insect.  The organisation that I have chosen is Centralization, whereby the different parts of the piece meets at a point. Through several stages of trial and error in defining my language, I have concluded with final results. As I have chosen, Violent, Protective, Segmented.  Upon stating these attributes, you should be able to match the keywords to my art piece. All of which represents my centipede. This is because, like the centipede, the exaggerated segments in my abstract art shows the body. Using warm colors and the erratic patterns, I display its violent behavior co...

Understanding the End to know the Beginning. Part 2

Image
Uncle Handsome now explains his interior concept... Porch Once the base is completed, he chose the finishing touches to give the porch a proper appearance. To follow the trend as before this, he used natural slates because of its rugged and tough exterior. The warm brown colour tones of the tile makes up keeping easy and appealing. And if he ever decide to give it a new look all he needs to do is give it a nice coat. However, time does take a toll on this material because in the long run in wear and tear; pieces of slate is chipped away bit by bit. But that is considered out of date. Nowadays, tiles are in trend. These are longer lasting, durable, easily maintained; a definite improvement. Column and Beams Each column and beam on its own, has a bare concrete look. So to clean up the look of the interior and to fit with the theme... He used wooden panels to cover up after he knocked down the center, creating an open counter looking into the kitchen. Fo...

Understanding the End to know the Beginning. Part 1

Because this site has already been erected for the past 20 years since my uncle moved here, to help me understand the house better, he walked me from the planning process to the site itself. To start it all off, he began by saying that when it comes to designing a house to fit its owners, with freedom in choices, there still are SOP(standard operating procedures) that has to met. I knew little about the long list of regulations that the contractor has to consider and keep in mind, while they try as much to keep in the interest of the client. Groundwork and its Foundation Anyways, he began by explaining that this house and the area it sits on was developed by the Sunway Group. He went on, first explaining the foundation. Due to the known fact that most of the land in Sunway used to be a mining site, even after the groundwork was done including the piling, an additional ground beam had to be placed. From his description, it was placed from the car porch to as far as the y...

When reality hits you...

When reality hits you hard; knowing that this could be our possible future. What is it that I'm talking about? If it is not known enough, Interior architecture is really kicking me hard to the point where even my parents are questioning my decisions whether or not to forgo this course. Nevertheless, work still needs to be done until such a time where I make a decision. Hence, let's go. As a brief introduction, for our final assignment in this module we are to go out on our own and select a site visit. This is done to help us understand, visualize and help us connect the information from the lectures to the site. That is why preferably, a house undergoing renovation or construction would be ideal for this task but Ms.Sharon being understanding allowed us to make do. The site my team chose is that of an uncle of mine who lives nearby, within Bandar Sunway. He too, so happens to be working in this line.

Contouring & Hatching Techniques

Image
From the image above, you can see that this is my result of a variation of contour and hatching techniques. The purpose by which is to expose us to the different styles available as well as the 'feel' it projects. I am familiar with two styles; of which are hatching and cross-hatching as mastering the basics seems to be the priority. Although that may be true, I learnt two new techniques that I have come to appreciate. Number 1 being its complexity in its form yet being so simplistic in the way it is performed.  Stippling is the definition of precision and patience accompanied with all these attributes as a lot comes into consideration when doing it. When people look at art pieces as such, they are amazed at the effort it took to produce such results; it matches the work input too. Everything comes into play when stippling; the line weight and thickness. the spacing between each dot as well as the pressure applied. It all adds up to macro image. The next one I found ...
