Recap on the Rise and fall of Project Archy

To recap from the experience that we had, it was an enjoyable assignment where we see variations of designs and builds of the structures. This experiment showed us that each team had their own strengths and weaknesses in the arch. But what I think mattered at the end of the day is how well-rounded ones build is. This is because, if we were to apply it to our physical context, the main goal is to create and design a unique habitable living space. If that were the case, ours would probably kill people in regions where seismic activity is high but will stand out if it were a bunker.  From what I have learnt, is that the balance is key. Design is an important component but at the end of the day, functionality remains the priority.

To continue from where we left off, its been a week since the last post and a lot has happened. Within the week we not only received new homework, a somewhat refresher for a project was given. Here is how it went... Remember how many a times we have big ambitions but sometimes we are restricted by our abilities? Yeah. That was pretty much what happened. We had plans to reinterpret "The Parthenon" by merging its design with that of a dome. But it was later that we came into realisation that we didn't have the time nor the skills to perform it. We had to improvise and make it workable in order to save time. This is our process... Test : Load We needed to meet the basic requirement of a minimum of 4 phones. Hence to achieve the required mark and above, we tested our arch in several ways. However, following the footsteps of our forefathers, we studied the different types of arch throughout the ages; looking for one that suits our use and enables us to alter...

It begins...

Well a great hello once again to the great bloggers world. To be honest, I'm not exactly the type who shares much about myself, let alone blog about it online. Nevertheless, ola I'm here. To start it off, this subject is called construction and technology, with Ms. Sharon being our lecturer. Class began with quite a slow mood for me as I was mentally nor physically prepared to begin the semester at such a high pace. I'm quite guilty to be falling asleep on the first day of class. Such a bad impression given, but I shall fix that. Hopefully.

Deeper is what they want

So hey! A continuation from the last topic. We were talking about arthropods (if unfamiliar refer to the previous post). This time we are going in deeper...in visualizing it.*sigh* its already hair raising looking at it, now we have to individually visualize our info and draw out a detailed version of our insects. Not exactly how I planned to spend my Friday nights doing... The species I've chosen is that of the Colopendra Heros. Originating from, North America or Vietnam, there creatures are considered one of the most venomous insects available. However, it is commonly mistaken by the term venomous and deadly no doubt most of the time it comes hand in hand. This centipede is venomous as its poison can inflict severe and serious pain, organ failure and loss of limbs in certain cases. although not proven, there are however death reports caused by this insect. Anyways, we've driven off-course quite abit, so lets get back on track. The beginning of the visualisation process wa...

Creeping beneath my skin

Disgusting, just plain disgusting. spending time looking in depth at these Arthropods (yes this is the correct term) was just hair raising for me. And no, I'm not afraid of insects, I just dislike how all insects look. As if they were born to give people the creeps. I'm cool with it as long as I'm looking at it through a separated glass or its deep fried then by all means bring 'em out. Of the three, Centipedes fascinated me the most. Yes it is the ugliest and yes the most unwanted of the three. but I was drawn to how much similarity I've found in its behavior as well as us human beings. Centipedes have strong emotions. They're protective creatures; like a mother to her child, it curls around it till its birth. It is defensive as well has a distinct aggresive attitude; when threatened, it stings its predator or prey making sure you do not make the same mistake of disturbing their haven the second time. As you can see, we are in many ways similar to the livin...

Round 2! Group assignment ended, another one begins. Upon completing the first, we were asked to chose a particular insect, and of the 6 choices we chose what seemed most appropriate. Yet the journey through this process was an utmost disgust. You'll understand in a moment. One word says it all. Worms. All things long and squirmy, we had to research that. Worms,Centipedes and Millipedes was the given topic and in 3 days we presented our findings. The process in presenting our visual board. The reason to why I called it a visual board is because we were meant to visualize aspects of our insect while each of the components and facts remain intact with the rest of the information gathered. For the reason that it would be too much or hectic to look for attributes with the possibility of having overlapping information, we divided the load and my findings were its behaviour.
