Finale

Here comes the big one. This project being tied to the core subject of our course makes it difficult to love this part of the assignment. Whereby we are to understand, imagine, reorganize, and reinvent the space for our client in his temporal home. Done on an A2 board, i illustrated the flow and frequency in use of my container home's space in my version of and abstract persective. leading from the house, it leads from the center garden that takes one through the living room/ kitchen that also opens up into a bar. Later, leading down to the open deck that brings the audience out unto the open over the lake; following the direction it then enters the gallery. But knowing the personality and the person my client presents himself to be, he is the kind to entertain guest, that is why the demograph shows it being closer in terms of use in space. Down from the gallery would be the workshop, a private space but also accessible in the means of visitors that would like to have a glimpse ...

Project 2

Image
Previously on EP 101, I've had just completed the presentation as project 1, which believe me I was more prepared mentally before I took a nap right before my turn; that was when it all went down south.  Above is the observation that I made of the location that I have chosen to do my case study. Seri Wawasan, Putrajaya. An upcoming city in our region, it is currently low in population as areas of this location are undergoing developement. Based on the 4 boards I illustrated how I viewed the city in a different manner, not forgetting to apply the significant 'marks'. Following the trail, I made it in the same manner as my actual travel, everything from the sights to the senses. The story tells of two travellers journeying to a place in search of serenity upon the post-apocalyptic event (A group effort). Mine starts off with octagonal panels, symbolizing the many buildings and structures all eager to stand out in shape, colour and size.  The 2nd panel, the silouette ...

Environmental Psychology 101

Reading Spaces. An Introduction given by Ms.Annie, in this topic we are to learn and observe the environment as well as the interaction that occurs in a location. From lecture one I have gathered the 4 main categories in our study of classifying spaces. 1. Public Within a social distance, people beyond this circle would be nothing more than noticeable by us, but the closer they are the more we prepare ourselves where it be conciously or not, in anticipation of action. 2. Social Everyone has our own social cliques. And in these zones, it is basically having people within a comfortable radius; close enough to communicate but not to the extent where we would call it ''too close for comfort''. Situations as such would refer to e.g supper at a mamak stall with friends as well as tag alongs. 3. Intimate A person who is in the area that is either within an arms span or there s an obvious connection between two individuals. It refers to anything from a the touch, body ...

long overdue update (the final stretch)

Image
Here it is. Home stretch. the product of my final push to the end of semester 2. To be honest I wanted it to turn out differently from how it is now. In some ways better, but nevertheless, no regrets. why spend time of what has been done when there is still much more to look forward to. Hence, without further ado, i give you Jo's Oasis.  I know that some might be thinking this is quite stupid, well in some ways you're right. a stupid name. But here is why I stuck with this name. The inspiration sprung when I saw that my designer needed a place to lay low, keep to himself while having the environment familiar to him as he remains in the city. That is why I chose this spot, Seri Wawasan, Putrajaya. An upcoming city but with the site chosen, it is secluded enough to give him the privacy and inspirational elements that he needs from his surroundings. Him being a Penang-boy, his need and want is to be near a large body of water. It is his main source of inspiration; that and ev...

long overdue update (Part 3)

Image
As mentioned in the previous page, this mock design is to suit the artist. With the idea that it'll serve him with purpose in his working line. My artist, being one that is always on the move in search for inspiration needs a tool that is hardy, sleek, with the ability to take a beating from the natural elements. All this while being able to provide multi-function. From the design you can see that I envisioned it to be in the form of a canister. why this boring shape with a common feature? because of all the many shapes, this has proven itself to be provide protection.  The many levels and plates allows my artist to swap and interchange the usage of this tool kit to his necessities. If he were to lets say go on a trip where more space for sample collection is required, he need only remove the plates he does not need. this gives him options.

Long overdue updates (part 1)

Image
Well here's to an update after the end of the semester. I know its far from each project submission but I guess better late than never. Above is the the information that I have compiled throughout my research of this jewelry designer. Having been given the priviledge to get a personal insight into the man's life; understanding his joys and his struggles. In the brief moments that I have written to him back and forth, in my opinion, he is a man that is ever passionate in his craft. That being said, many a times he displays a turn of emotion as imagined in his writing, and through his many emphasis on the matter; his utmost dislike and inability to tolerate plagiarism of his work.  Seeing from his perspective, one can sympathize that through the tedious process of refinery and perfection of his art pieces, to only have it be copied and claimed by someone else will be a thorn that will stick to one for sometime. But nevertheless, he shows optimism in his mentality an...

Assignment 2 Part 2

Image
To continue from the previous post, here is the findings that I've come to learn and understand about the roofing. Further understanding the problems and it root causes, at the same time learning the process of repair. Inadequate Shading and Roofing Of the many known causes of roofing problems, I’ve come to identify and highlight several. Here is a list of the common areas where it occurs; you may find that the findings may vary which could be because of different area. However, presented to you, are the most repeated of the scenarios. Weathering Roof material deteriorates quicker with the direct exposure to weather. This causes organic materials to be more susceptible to the elements compared to Inorganic materials. Exposure to pollutants or industrial atmosphere has also been proven to accelerate the decay of your roofing material. Lack of Maintenance This is most common on sloped roofs. Failure to correct uneven roof will result in the  accumulation of sed...

Assignment 2 Part 1

Image
A recap from the previous assignment, as a group we surveyed and observed a building. With the purpose to take note, identify and place an educated estimate on the possible causes for the results seen at the site. My personal evaluation has brought me to these conclusions to the various problems and issues. Of which in the end pose a discomfort and in some instances, a hazardous possibility to the residents. These are the findings: Poor drainage system Inadequate shading and Roofing As seen on the given from the above, the next step upon identifying the problems is to analyse it. Poor drainage system Climate change is one of the several reasons for unusually high rainfall and long dry spells that proves to be a major factor in Malaysia, However, it is not the underlying cause for incidents such as flooding and overspills. The fact of the matter is that when such issues also occurs in high rise buildings, the question of systems integrity does come into mind. The ...
